Whatever happened to the women of Starz’s Spartacus?

Before there was Game of Thrones on HBO, another historical-ish series filled with blood, romance, and beautiful people took over our television sets (that is for those who had Starz) – Spartacus. The historical-action show was inspired by historical figure Spartacus, who was a Thracian gladiator who helped lead the slaves to an uprising against the Roman Republic in Capua, Italy during 73 to 71 BCE.

The series was an instant success from the first season, and quickly got a reputation for its gory action scenes, dramatic twists, and of course its cast of talented and not to mention insanely gorgeous cast. Since it has been eight years since the series first premiered, why not take a moment to check up on what our favorite Romans, slaves, and rebels have been up to since we last saw them. In this list in particular, we would like to focus specifically on the lovely, strong, talented women of Spartacus who made the series so memorable.

Yes, it is true, the intense, powerful, and impressively muscular men of Spartacus definitely played a key part in the series’ great success. However, it is safe to say that the show would have been incomplete without the passionate toga and gown-wearing women who loved them so much. The actresses of the cast effortlessly portrayed wealthy Romans, noble-hearted handmaidens, struggling slaves, and strong warriors.

Of course, they were also often in the midst of some of the series’ most unforgettable, jaw-dropping moments of jealousy, rage, manipulation, dishonesty, seduction,  and betrayal. Can we ever truly forget that tragic, brutal, and shocking final scene between two leading ladies and former friends Ilithyia (Viva Bianca) and Lucretia (Lucy Lawless)?

Although the series may have been short-lived, lasting only three seasons plus one prequel miniseries, it is still considered one of the most popular premium network television shows in history.

Chances are, it has been a while since you have seen the charming ladies of Spartacus, so why not take some time to catch up with what they have been up to? While many of the actresses on this list have gone on to even bigger and better roles in TV and film, others have yet to find a role that lives up to their Spartacus days, and some have chosen to retire from acting all together.

Just a warning, you may not recognize some of these girls without their glamorous togas, gowns, and wigs!

One of the main character’s of the first two seasons, Lucretia is a Roman woman in the land of Capua with moderate standing. Her and her husband Quintus Lentulus Batiatus scheme their way to the top of the social scale, only to fall back down after Spartacus rebels and seeks revenge. After being the sole survivor of Spartacus’ massacre, she is viewed as an oracle and symbol of hope. However, her plan to elevate her house’s status are eventually revealed, resulting in a catastrophic outcome for her family and legacy.
