Deb and Hugh adopted two children. For the birth of their eldest son Oscar, both Deb and Hugh were in the delivery room with the birth mother.
Hugh remembers the day well – he and Deb were present at the birth and they became relatively close with the mother. During the delivery, he and Deb were so excited and held hands through it all. After a bit, Hugh asked the birth mother if he could see the baby being born. It seems that he had fatherly instincts from the beginning – it was going to be his child, after all.
