Over the course of the evening, Steffen Berr and his dinner companions had racked up a hefty bill. They had bought enough food and drink to cover a $190 bill, so they decided to pay by check.
However, as David looked at the check, he was incredibly confused. Steffen had written a check for a much larger amount, and David automatically assumed that it was a mistake. After all, who would give a $190 tip alongside their $190 bill? It wasn’t until David noticed the handwritten note on the bill that he realized it wasn’t a mistake.

On the note, Steffen had written, “We’re young, but we’re worth serving.” David stared at the note in disbelief, and couldn’t believe that someone would leave such a huge amount.
That kind of money would change his life, and he needed to make sure that it really was intended for him. So, he immediately went in search of Steffen. David later spoke to CBS about the event and the amount of money and noted that people rarely know how much tips mean to a server until they work in the industry themselves.
