Amazingly, David was able to track down Steffen before he left the restaurant entirely. He wanted to make sure that Steffen really had chosen to give such a large tip, and he was overwhelmed to hear that it hadn’t been a mistake.
David later took to social media to speak out about this story. It was here that we learned a little more about Steffen. At 24 years old, Steffen was like many other youngsters. He was a college student at Sacramento State, and he worked as an unpaid intern in his free time.

To explain the reasoning behind his hefty tip, Steffen confirmed that he had previously worked as a server while he was living in Texas.
He knew exactly what it was like to work a busy shift where you have no help, but you still want to ensure that you are giving customers the service that they deserve. He also knew how it felt to feel under-appreciated in a scenario like that – and he didn’t want David to feel the same. He wanted to make his day after an awful shift.
