Another of the letters from the teenage girl to her pen pal told the boy that she was staying at a girl scout camp. The girl was writing from Lewisville in Indiana to the boy based several hundred miles away in Corryton, Tennessee.

With an almost five-hour drive separating the pair, the only way they could really communicate was to send each other regular letters. The boy felt the need to hide his letters away from prying eyes, perhaps hoping to keep knowledge of his relationship from others.
