An upper endoscopy, also referred to as a EGD, involves inserting a small camera attached to end of scope down someone’s throat. The camera itself is there so the surgeons can see what’s happening, and, in Jenna’s case, see exactly where the ring is located.
After locating the ring, the scope then has a mechanism by which to grab a hold of any blockages – such as an engagement ring – and remove them. Most EGD procedures last for a maximum of 20 minutes, meaning it was a quick process for the suffering Jenna.
