The women of The Flash in real life

DC fans around the world pumped their fist into the air when they heard that The Flash was finally getting a remake. The original TV series, which was aired in 1990 and only ran for one series certainly left a lot to be desired for Flash fans. However, it was the ‘90s… When Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns put their heads together to create The Flash in 2014, they knew they had to really do it justice this time round. The new series premiered on The CW on October 7, 2014, and became the second-most watched TV premiere for the channel! People couldn’t wait to see the Arrowverse expanded, and follow Barry Allen (aka Flash) on his adventures. Alongside Barry, we have seen some incredible characters as part of Team Flash – or against him in some cases – many of which have been females. However, are these ladies just as super in real life? Let’s take a look at the real women behind The Flash.

The Flash follows Barry Allen, who witnessed his mother’s murder when he was just a young boy. He gets taken in by Joe West, a detective with a daughter around Barry’s age; Iris. In an effort to find out what really happened to his mother, and perhaps spurred on by being brought up by Joe West, Barry decides to become a crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department. While Barry lives a fairly normal life to start with, everything changes when a particle accelerator malfunctions in the city center, causing serious amounts of radiation. At the same time, Barry gets hit by lightning and is plunged into a coma. However, when he finally awakes, Barry’s life has totally changed. His ability to move at superhuman speeds is quickly realized, and it’s these new powers that spur the former policeman to become a superhero. Enter, Flash.

The Flash has become so popular with audiences around the globe that it managed to nab the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama back in 2014. Back in 2016, The Rolling Stone named The Flash as one of the 40 Best Science Fiction TV Shows of All Time, and Rotten Tomatoes has a 97% approval rating! The CW recently renewed the popular show for a fourth season, which started in October 2017 and is currently ongoing. While Barry/Flash may be the main character, there are plenty of others who make up Team Flash – many of them women! From friends to enemies, and a few love interests for good measure, here are what the women of The Flash look like in real life.

Iris West is introduced as the daughter of Detective Joe West and the childhood friend of Barry Allen. However, it isn’t long before Barry and Iris realize that it’s more than just friendship blossoming between them. Fans of the comic books will know exactly what happens between Iris and The Flash… We also see her Earth-2 (the parallel universe to Earth) counterpart in “Welcome to Earth-2” where her father was a nightclub singer and she is a police detective.
