It was like swapping one slave driver for another. She used to be a slave to her eating habits, held captive in a vicious cycle of eating too much because she was unhappy and being unhappy about eating too much. Now, outwardly she looked great, with her compulsive eating supposedly under control. A closer look, however, would have shown something else entirely – she was now at the mercy of a competing compulsion – to deny herself food. If she persisted, her health might be in real jeopardy.
