Growing up, Richie hadn’t had a close bond with his mother. Mary Tyler Moore admits that she wasn’t a role model parent and that she let him down when he had needed her the most. Having lost touch with his mother for years, Richie eventually got in contact with his mother again. Unfortunately, though, Richie had fallen into a deep hole of substance abuse and had found himself in trouble involving a dealer of his, before his untimely death at just 24-years old.
