Transformations give us a chance to watch one thing become something entirely different, and the results can be incredibly satisfying to see. In popular culture we have been able to see shapeshifters transform before our very eyes, such as Professor McGonagall’s ability to turn into a cat in Harry Potter; Mystique taking on whatever role she likes throughout the X-Men movies; The Doctor becoming an entirely new person in Doctor Who, or Sylar transforming between himself and his mother in the sci-fi drama Heroes. Shapeshifting is all around us.
However, what about in the real world? It looks as though some people have the ability to transform something into another thing entirely without the power of magic. Home renovation shows can turn houses into brand new spaces that we never thought imaginable, while plastic surgery shows give us the opportunity to follow people looking to take on an entirely different body. However, what happens when these makeovers take nothing more than a change of clothes, a haircut, and some makeup? That’s when the real magic happens.
The Oprah Winfrey Show first hit our screen back on September 8, 1986, and ran for 25 seasons until it aired for the final time on May 25, 2011. Oprah Winfrey was the host of the talk show which featured thousands of interviews, segments, book reviews, and product endorsements. The show was so popular that in 14 years it took home 47 Daytime Emmys until Oprah pulled the show from consideration. Although we now know the series to be about the real people of this world, The Oprah Winfrey Show could have once been so different. The host tried to get actor Don Johnson on the very first episode of the show. However, when he couldn’t make the filming, Oprah opted to focus on the public, which became her signature style. Now, the host is recognized as one of the Queens of daytime TV.
One of the popular segments featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show was the makeover section. Guests would arrive and wait with anticipation to discover just how different they could look after a makeover. It could be they are sick of their look, they need a change, or their appearance is holding them back. Whatever it is that makes these individuals feel as though they need a transformation, Oprah was there to help them achieve their dream. Although the host saw hundreds of guests come and go from her stage over the years, two men were about to go down in history as some of the most memorable guests of all time. Hidden behind a wall of beard, could these two really come out the other side as new individuals? One man was about to not only blow away the audience, but he left his wife shocked to the core.
