After New Edition left Maurice Starr and the label, they promptly came up with a new band instead. The New Kids on the Block were born fashioned after New Edition’s style and songs except this time, it was comprised of white members instead. New Edition, for their part, wanted out of their contract with Streetwise, so they hired legal representatives to help them. After New Edition won, a bidding war between record labels began over signing the hot quintet.
