The events in this movie took place during the Japanese invasion of China, a devastating event that led to a great loss of life and a significant amount of fear for everyone involved in it. But in terms of movie accuracy, this one used the best examples of the aircraft available in the time. There were restored P-51D Mustangs, Mitsubishi A6M Zero, and even B-29 bombers! Spielberg even went on to remark that he didn’t like how remote-controlled B-29s looked, so he went on to get a real one, just so for the perfect shot.
