[post_page_title]12 Years a Slave (2013)[/post_page_title]
This one is a must-see on any amatuer cinematographer’s (and movie buff’s) viewing list. 12 Years a Slave is based on a biography of a free-born African American man who lost all his rights when he was kidnapped and sold to slavery. It’s a historical marvel of proportionally epic levels upon other levels, brilliant and gripping and riveting. This is a film that stays so true to its source material that, in the words of respected professor Emily West, that she had “never seen a film represent slavery so accurately.”
