1917 is based on the stories of Alfred Mendes, the grandfather of one of the movie’s script writers. Although they took creative license on his stories, this one is still a staggering take on trench warfare during the Great War. You’d be surprised with the tremendous amount of preparation they did in creating this film. Everyone, including the set designers and the movie extras, immersed themselves in a makeshift bootcamp, playing checkers to pass the time. Why? Because they wanted to capture the complete boredom in every extra’s faces.
