While he was working on Blazing Saddles, Mel Brooks was also busy working on his comedy show, Your Show of Shows. During his time on the show, Mel Brooks bumped into the comedy legend, Richard Pryor.
The pair started talking and immediately connected on both a professional and personal level. It was at this point that Brooks knew he wanted Pryor in his movie – and it’s a good thing he did! Ultimately, Pryor wrote the whole character of Mongo with his comedic knowledge and natural humor.
