Although Richard Pryor wrote the character of Mongo, it was eventually taken on by Alex Karras. We now remember this man for his acting talent, but it seems as though Alex Karras was hugely successful before he made his screen debut.
When he was younger, Alex made a name for himself as a professional NFL footballer. He not only played within the All-Pro team, but he was also enlisted into the prestigious All-Decade team. This Detroit Lion eventually made his transition into the world of acting.
