After the success of the Blazing Saddles movie, the Warner Bros executives wanted to ride the wave of success and create a Western franchise that would rival some of the biggest names out there.
So, they enlisted the help of Andrew Bregman to write a brand new television series that would be called Black Bart. After months of preparation, the pilot episode came onto our screens in April 1974 – but it barely racked up any viewers. Despite this, contractual obligations meant that the episodes were still filmed.
