Whenever animals are used in movies, you can almost guarantee that there will be people out there who have cause for concern. Animal rights groups boycott the film, animal lovers complain, and people struggle to see the entertainment value in the scene. Sadly, Blazing Saddles faced this reaction.
Although most people fell over laughing when Mongo knocked out a horse, there were other people who weren’t so pleased about the treatment of the horses. Warner Bros. tried to explain to fans that the horses were not injured in the scene and were simply trained to fall down on their own, but this didn’t stop the complaints from rolling in.
