Over the course of his career, Mel Brooks has turned many of his successful movies into Broadway shows. After his adaptation of The Producer wowed fans across the world, he was often asked to take Blazing Saddles to the stage.
While Mel would have been more than happy to do so, he was concerned about the effects of his script and his speech. He noted that “It’s pretty dangerous stuff, using the N-word… I don’t know If I could get away with it today.”
