We already know that Gene Wilder was brought in to replace Gig Young as the Waco Kid, but it seems as though Young wasn’t the first actor to be offered the role.
During the production process, Brooks struggled to put the face of his Waco Kid to the name of a Hollywood actor. So, he went through a scrupulous casting session and eventually offered the role to the late night talk show host, Jimmy Carson. Jimmy eventually turned the role down, and he was replaced by Young… who was also replaced!
