Despite the fact that Mel Brooks liked his actors to stick to his perfectly-crafted script, there were some actors on the set of Blazing Saddles that just couldn’t resist going off-piste and improving.
One of the most notable improvisations came from Gene Wilder when he was speaking to Cleavon Little as Sheriff Bart. The famous line, “You know… morons”, which was used to describe the townspeople, was not actually in the script. This little addition took Little by surprise, and he just couldn’t hold in his laughter.
