While Blazing Saddles was in full swing of production and filming, Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder were also tied up with another job on their to-do list.
After agreeing to take on the role of the Waco Kid, Gene Wilder asked Mel Brooks to help him bring his own story to life – a comedy remake of the story of Frankenstein, called Young Frankenstein. Although Brooks originally agreed to get Gene on board with his own movie, he quickly fell in love with Wilder’s concept.
