But James Earl Jones wasn’t the only one considered for the role of Black Bart. Apparently, Mel Brooks desperately wanted his co-writer Richard Pryor to play the role – but this proposal was rejected.
When that happened, Brooks quit for a little while. He was so sure that Pryor was the right choice, but as we know, he eventually got over it and agreed to cast Cleavon Little. As we now know – everything worked out for the best.
