We’ve acknowledged that the use of bodily flatulence in the film was a huge center of controversy, but we didn’t make it clear why.
Aside from its vulgarity, the reason it was such a big deal was because it in fact had never been done before. Blazing Saddles was the first film to include an audio recording of flatulence in a cinematic film, and their daringness to be bold ended up setting them apart from all other comedies at the time.
