Choosing the right name for a movie is one of the most important aspects of the development process, but it seems as though Mel Brooks and his team just couldn’t decide on a final name.
In the early stages of development, they toyed with names such as ‘Tex X’ and ‘Black Bart,’ but these were soon scrapped. They later wondered whether the name ‘The Purple Sage’ fit the bill – but ultimately ditched that one too. The final name actually came to Brooks while he was taking a shower.
