Richard meets Julia Mazzone Karinsky in Italy during the third season. The two eventually tie the knot even though Julia’s father disapproves of Richard. Julia’s businessman father tries to end the marriage in any way he can including by exerting financial and physical pressures. In the end, the two part ways, and when Richard finds out Julia is getting married, he asks Caroline to pretend to be his wife to impress Julia – echoing his pretending to be Caroline’s boyfriend in the first episode.
