Alex Kingston had already made a name for herself in the acting world before she was able to land the role of River Song in 2008. While she appeared mainly in 2015, Alex was never cast as a main character for the show so had plenty of spare time to work on shows such as Chasing Shadows, Hope Springs, and E.R. The following year was a significant turning point for the actress as she managed to bag roles in Arrow, and Blue Bloods, as well as the highly anticipated Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
