Even though Noel made his grand exit from the show during 2006, he made cameo appearances as Mickey in both 2008 and 2010. Since officially leaving Doctor Who, Noel stuck with the sci-fi route when he was given a leading role on Star Trek: Into Darkness, as well as stepping back in time for Centurion. However, recently Noel has decided to hang up his acting to pick up the pen; he has had a part in writing several movies, including Brotherhood, Storage 24, and Fast Girls.
