Introduced in season five as if she had been there all along, viewers later learned Dawn was a key of sorts between dimensions, given human form, and that her creators implanted memories of her in Dawn, Buffy, and everyone else’s heads, to make them think they had always known her. But while show creator Joss Whedon explained her character had been introduced so Buffy could experience an intense, non-romantic relationship, viewers quickly got fed up with Dawn’s teen angst, and found her, on the whole, to be kind of obnoxious.
