Back when House Hunters was first starting out, there was never any mention of money. In fact, a budget for the buyers was never brought up on screen. It was only when the producers realized they could boost the ratings that they started discussing how much people were making, and the amount they would be willing to spend on a new home. Critics have said they feel as though this takes away from the property side of the show, while others question how people with low paying jobs can afford such expensive houses.
