Maya Lewis is a very complicated character who was believed to be dead by her daughter, Olivia Pope, as well as the rest of the world. Her backstory, before the show began was that she was a spy who sold government secrets for cash. She found out about B613 and was about to fly back from America to sell these secrets until her husband Eli found out what she was and what she was doing. Eli and Fitz decide to shoot down the plane, making everyone believe she is dead. However, she was actually imprisoned, and alive during all these years.
