A legendary actor who spoke five languages and won two Academy Awards, Marlon Brando refused to learn his lines. Instead, he would read them off cue cards that were attached to other actors of held by crew members in his line of sight.
When someone on the set of The Godfather asked why Brando insisted on doing this, he replied, “Because I can read them that way.” Later, for the movie The Island of Dr. Moreau, Brando wore an earpiece through which he was fed his lines.
