It seems as though not everyone is born with dwarfism after all. In fact, studies have shown that stress in young children can have a significant effect on their growth rate, and even lead to psychosocial dwarfism.
It’s thought the body’s overproduction of the stress hormone epinephrine is to blame. The hormone takes so much energy away from other functions in the body that it often means the body hasn’t got enough left to put towards growth. Sometimes, these effects can be permanent.
