At the beginning of the show, viewers were reminded of the set of rules that followed each monster build. When the build was complete, the monster was supposed to look stock. The team had a set amount of cash (originally $3000, later raised to $5000) for any parts they needed. And finally, they had just seven days to complete the project. Jesse James himself was never too keen on the rules and would happily break them, whenever he could. One of his wars against the producers came with the PT Cruiser Wood Chipper, which he wanted the team to finish in one day instead of seven.
