[post_page_title]Stranded in a river[/post_page_title]
The Sam Ratulangi actually hit ground while drifting along the Sittaung River, becoming lodged in the riverbed just seven miles from the nearest village, Thamaseitta.
The Sittaung River isn’t generally used as a trade route due to strong currents, but it is used to float timber to the south of the country for export. The river is 260 miles in length, and generally only very small craft are agile enough to navigate its shallow waters.
