Kate McLaughlin is a single mom who meets an inebriated Charlie and Jake’s soccer game. The two hit it off and agree that it is foolish that the teams are not keeping score in the game. Charlie invites Kate over with her son for a playdate with Jake and the two go on a couple dates. Kate eventually ends things after she reveals that she has not seen another man since her divorce and that her life is extremely stressful. Liz Vassey returns in another episode as Michelle who is Charlie’s dermatologist. The two briefly date but Michelle breaks up with Charlie because she believes he loves Rose.
