Having control over their children’s love lives is probably what the Duggars have been most concerned about. They’re terrified of sensual corruption manipulating their kids into behaving in an ungodly manner, so they do whatever they can to ensure they act appropriately when around people they’re courting.
That includes preventing them from touching and kissing until they’re man and wife, something that isn’t completely unheard of in religious circumstances. It hasn’t always worked, but for the most part, it’s been effective.
