Marie wanted to help her church, Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist, and she promised Kevin that she would donate 10% of her winnings to the church. Matthews had the intentions of buying a plot of land in order to build a retreat center and he was going to use Marie’s donation to do it. Marie promised that she would give $1.5 million for this project, an extremely generous donation. Although she wanted to donate to Matthews’ church, it turns out that he did not appreciate it.
