It turns out that the story of how Marie won the lottery is much more difficult than was originally thought. While the public believed that Marie was the one who purchased the ticket, in reality she gave her mother, Fontella, $15 and she bought the ticket on her way to Matthews’ church. As it turns out, Fontella personally chose the numbers for the ticket and they were anything but random.
