Makena decided to speak up about her experience because she wanted to inspire those who were going through a similar situation.
She wanted to let them know that they didn’t have to give up on their dreams just because they had a setback, and she didn’t want them to think as though their main goal in life had been thwarted. These talks also helped Makena get over her ordeal. She didn’t want to wallow in the fact that she couldn’t play volleyball, so decided to inspire a generation instead.
