During this time, Elvis really tried to embrace this new musical lifestyle to impress those around him and prove to the world that he wasn’t a ‘momma’s boy’ – despite the fact that he was still incredibly close to his mother and spent the majority of time with Gladys Presley. He grew out his sideburns, he slicked back his hair, and he took his guitar everywhere he went. It was thanks to this new look that he was able to bag himself his first sweetheart. She was the first of many, but definitely one to remember.
