Westerfield entered the world of competitive bodybuilding shortly before her 30th birthday. She had been studying for her pre-med degree at the University of South Florida, and was pumping iron alongside studying.
After graduating in 2000, Westerfield wasted little time in finding a competition for her to compete in, and later that year she came third in the 2000 Women’s Tri-Fitness tournament. She competed on the amateur circuit for several years before earning her professional card in 2005.
