Sometimes the inclusion or exclusion of a single word can entirely change the meaning or impact of a sentence. That’s absolutely the case here, where the roast is made three times as bad by the use of the word ‘extra’.
If they’d said the star of ‘Orange is the New Black’ it would have been fine – that’s a hugely popular and well-regarded show after all. However, the word ‘extra’ immediately ruins that chance – paying this person the greatest insult of all by insisting that they’re strictly a background character.
