If you’ve ever been to Sephora and wondered why they don’t call the stockroom the stockroom, or why they don’t hand out samples and call them samples, that’s actually because Sephora workers aren’t allowed to use certain words. Those who work in this store are trained to use alternative words to give their customers a completely different experience.
They call the stockroom their “backstage” area, they give their customers “gratis” in the form of free samples, the shop floor workers are called “cast members,” and the managers are called “directors.” They don’t even wear their work uniforms, because they instead “don their costumes.” It’s like your very own Sephora show, and we kinda love that.
