[post_page_title]John Amos as James Evans on Good Times[/post_page_title]
Good Times was the first family sitcom starring African-Americans. The show was about husband and wife James and Florida Evans, who lived in an urban Chicago neighborhood with their children.
The actors playing them – John Amos and Esther Rolle – believed that the show would deal with serious topics in a lighthearted way. As the eldest son, J.J., was growing more and more popular, however, the series shifted more and more to his antics and they were both dissatisfied. Before he could quit, Amos was fired, with his character passing away after a car crash.
