This a case of a character being killed off – seven seasons after the actor left! Let’s back up first. Like Thomas Gibson, Mandy Patinkin – who played FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit chief Jason Gideon for three seasons – also got into trouble with producers.
He wasn’t shy about letting people know, either, calling his time on the show his “biggest public mistake” and “very destructive to my soul and my personality,” and saying he didn’t think he’d ever work in television again. Gideon left the BAU after undergoing emotional distress, only to be murdered off-screen in Criminal Minds’ tenth season.
