This is the only instance of an actor actually asking to be written of a show. Cruz played the intense criminal kingpin Tuco, whose violent, manic energy simply exhausted Cruz, and he approached producers about being written off.
They asked him to do eight more episodes and he declined, prompting them to say they’ve never heard of someone asking to be killed off. His response? They didn’t understand what it took to pull the part off. Cruz was given his wish, and Tuco died after being shot by Walter White’s brother-in-law DEA agent Hank.
