You knew this was coming. Chuck was the eldest of the Cunningham children, while Richie was still the star of the show, before Fonzie’s coolness took it over completely.
O’Herlihy appeared sporadically in the show’s first two seasons, but then wanted to leave to focus on transitioning to films. Happy Days’ producers obliged, and Chuck went upstairs one day and never came back down. Shortly thereafter, it was like he never existed, and the term “Chuck Cunningham Syndrome” was coined to describe sitcom characters who disappear without explanation and are never mentioned again.
