Step by Step was an ensemble sitcom about a melded family with a lot of weird and zany characters, but none zanier than Frank Lambert’s nephew Cody, who lived in a van in the Lambert-Foster family’s driveway.
He was the quintessential ‘90s stereotype of a dimwitted surfer dude with a heart of gold, and was immensely popular with viewers, but left the show after the fifth season abruptly when Mitchell got into legal trouble concerning domestic abuse. Bonus: he was replaced by Bronson Pinchot as beautician Jean-Luc, who disappears without a trace himself after appearing in the sixth season.
