Polito played the cantankerous Detective Crosetti on the hit police procedural for two seasons. When the NBC bigwigs wanted to diversify the show a little more by adding female characters, which means someone had to go.
Crosetti was chosen, but producers promised Polito he’d be back as soon as possible. He didn’t believe them, and badmouthed both the network and the production crew publicly. His comeuppance? The following season, his character took his own life and was found days later, floating in the river.
